New features improve efficiency and predictability

TouchType has released a new update (free, Android Market) for its SwiftKey X and SwiftKey Tablet X apps. The latest version has added several new features including blog and RSS learning, heatmapping, and language layout switching. TouchType has also enhanced the way the app toggles to alternative characters.

The new blog and RSS learning capability enables personalization based on a user's previous posts. The heatmap function records typing accuracy on the keyboard. SwiftKey uses this data to improve the app's predictive typing capabilities.

TouchType has also introduced layout switching that displays keyboard layouts for different languages. Selecting an alternative character is now possible by sliding up rather than tapping a key.

The latest update reintroduces autocaps toggling for those who wish to always write in lower case. Also added is a new stats panel that offers usage information such as typing efficiency, keystrokes saved, words completed, and words predicted.

The update is free. The cost of the full app is $4 for the phone version and $5 for the tablet version.
