Motorola Xoom 2 models show in Verizon Cellebrite
Motorola's two upcoming Xoom 2 models may have been tagged as Verizon models after they were spotted Sunday in the carrier's Cellebrite systems. The 8.2-inch Xoom 2 Media Edition has shown up under its Fleming codename and an MZ609 model number, Droid-Life said. The full-size, 10-inch Xoom 2 is now nicknamed the Pasteur along with its known raw model number, MZ617.
The two are poised to be very close to teach other outside of screen size. Both should have dual-core 1.2GHz processors, an improved 1GB of RAM, and enough power from the two to record 1080p video. The full Xoom 2 may get a slightly longer 11 hours of battery life that will likely decline on the Media Edition.
Release dates and other launch details are unknown, though a device usually shows up in the Cellebrite tracker closer to its ship date. An unveiling near the end of the year would be unusual given the upcoming release of Android 4.0 (Ice Cream Sandwich) and the limited potential to grab sales if it arrives midway through holiday shopping.
A link to Verizon would hint at the carrier still having some hope for Motorola's tablets. Despite a Super Bowl ad and heavy promotion as the first optimized Android tablet, the original Xoom launched to just 250,000 sales and didn't increase to more than 440,000 this spring. Prices higher than Apple's, pressure to get a 3G contract, and a slew of promised but missing features kept it out of users' hands.
