Media Hub beta now available for trial sign-up

Samsung on Monday began offering a beta version of its long-ago announced Media Hub video service app. Interested parties can sign up for the trial and a small group will receive a free $25 voucher to purchase movies or TV shows from the Media Hub. Initially, however, only those with the AT&T version of the Galaxy S II are eligible.

Media Hub content can then be shared with 2011 Samsung Smart TVs, and chances of getting selected increase if owners also have one of the Internet-aware sets, Samsung said. The trial will have a limited selection of movies and TV shows. Samsung is looking for participants to give feedback on the trial through an online survey.

Samsung promises more services will be added to the overall Media Hub program in the coming months.

Originally, the service was available on initial Galaxy Tab devices as well, and it's expected to expand elsewhere, possibly after the beta trial period is finished. Unless something has changed since last year, content from NBC, Paramount, Universal and Warner will make up the core of the service, including movies and day-after TV shows. New deals may expand upon that content, however.
