eBay pegs iPhone 4 at up to $357
Some vendors have begun special trade-in promotions in the wake of yesterday's iPhone 4S announcement. Chief among these is eBay, which has launched an Instant Sale promotion that ends at 11:59PM Pacific time on Wednesday. The auction site is offering up to $357.50 for a 32GB AT&T iPhone 4, or $318.50 for an equivalent Verizon model. 16GB capacities can fetch as much as $325.50 or $297.75, respectively.
eBay is also taking in iPhone 3GS units with estimates of $179.75, $188.75 and $229 for 8, 16 and 32GB capacities. Some select HTC smartphones can be traded in as well; these include the Sensation 4G, valued at up to $225, and the EVO 3D, Thunderbolt, and Droid Incredible 2, each of which is listed at $200. A $5 eBay gift certificate is being applied for trade-ins done via the Instant Sale iOS app.
The company is actively challenging rivals Gazelle and NextWorth, claiming it can offer significantly more cash for used phones. Gazelle though says it has made some changes to its service, for instance offering dedicated support and processing teams for customers trading in iPhones. The company has also attempted to simplify its condition scales and offer calculations, although it is still only offering $249 for "flawless" 32GB AT&T iPhone 4s. Apple itself is handing out gift cards worth $200 or more for people giving up iPhone 4s.
