WD TV Live carries Spotify Music and more

Western Digital on Tuesday brought out its next-generation WD TV Live media box and companion WD TV Live Hub. The new version has a revamped, tray-based interface and now has Spotify music. Listeners with a Spotify Premium account can stream at the full 320Kbps with support for making playlists, sharing, and getting access to others' content through profiles and the song inbox.

Owners also have access to Pandora music as well as the usual photos and videos from Blockbuster and its CinemaNow counterpart, Facebook, Hulu Plus, Netflix, and YouTube. DailyMotion is new, WD said. The boxes carry 802.11n Wi-Fi and can play either service-based media or local network Mac and Windows content as well as USB media.

The core WD TV Live box costs $100 and relies on outside storage. Moving to the $200 WD TV Live Hub adds a built-in 1TB hard drive to provide always-available access. Both are on sale today, although access to Spotify requires a monthly subscription in a country where Spotify is active.
