Google and Samsung decide against Android 4 event

Google and Samsung together put forward a surprise, last-minute delay to the Galaxy Nexus. The two decided against using the CTIA fall show to show their new product. They planned to announce a new date shortly.

"We agree that it is just not the right time to announce a new product," the two said.

Neither said whether it was out of respect for the loss of Steve Jobs or a technical delay. The latter is most likely given that Apple itself still plans to ship the iPhone 4S on October 14 in spite of losing its iconic co-founder. Google is also known to be rushing updates to developers and may just not be ready with the code.

The news will hit both companies, which want a direct answer to the iPhone 4S, but may be a blow to Verizon the most. Having reportedly skipped the Galaxy S II as it didn't consider the hardware good enough to match Apple, it now won't have a direct Android alternative to the iPhone 4S for weeks.
