Premiere Elite set-top box offering many firsts

TiVo is now shipping its Premiere Elite set-top box, which was officially introduced at the start of September. The premium offering has four digital tuners and a built-in 2TB hard drive. Meant for home theater enthusiasts, it's also THX-certified for picture and sound output.

The DVR is the first in TiVo's lineup to allow recording of four programs at the same time while watching a fifth. The hard drive capacity is also twice as big as other offerings. It can access online streaming services such as Netflix, Pandora, Hulu Plus, Blockbuster, Amazon, and YouTube.

The new box has HDMI-compliant splitters with up to 16 HDMI ports. There is MoCA support with a MoCA bridge as well. An eSATA port allows expanding storage, while component, composite, digital audio, Ethernet and two USB ports are present. A CableCARD port is also accounted for.

Best Buy Magnolia stores are now stocking the Premiere Elite for $500.
