RIM talks BlackBerry Tag for NFC-like data swaps

At the GITEX conference in Dubai, BlackBerry maker RIM revealed an upcoming BlackBerry 7 OS update will have a new feature contained within in called BlackBerry Tag. This will let users share contact info, documents, web links, photos and other multimedia content by just tapping NFC-compatible handsets like the BlackBerry Bold 9900 together. It will also allow friends to quickly add each other in BlackBerry Messenger.

At first, it will be enabled only in the Bold 9900/9930 and Curve 9350/9360/9370 at the beginning, and come to other NFC-equipped BlackBerrys in the future. The future Curve Touch and the other remaining BlackBerry 7 hardware could be next in line.

RIM will also bring BlackBerry Tag to its coding APIs to give software developers the ability to add the feature to their own future apps.
