Garmin working on its own ANT+ adapter

Garmin looks to be working on its own ANT+ adapter for the iPhone, as evidenced by a recent FCC filing. There are no technical details revealed, though it's likely to pair and deliver fitness information to iPhones or iPod touch devices with the help of a free app.

ANT+ technology allows wireless transfer of information from devices such as cycling computers, hear rate monitors and other sensors. The GPS data, such as distance and elevation changes, can also be sent, but the iPhone already has this capability built-in. [via Engadget]

    More than just exercise

This is potentially a very useful tool for geocachers, as it may allow downloading of new geocaches on the phone, and then send them to your handheld Garmin via ANT+. ANT+ also allows generic transfer of waypoints, tracks and routes - in addition to exercise and geocache information.
