Google releases Android SDK for Google TV

The forthcoming Google TV operating system revamp has been given its finished Google TV add-on for Android SDK. The finished SDK gives developers the opportunity bring apps with updated API’s to Google’s latest attempt to boost its flagging TV platform. The updated OS is set to deliver Android 3.1 to Google TV as well as Android Market app support.

From a developer perspective, Google says that final release of the Android SDK for Google TV offers minor changes over the pre-release version. The Action Bar now renders horizontally as with other Android devices, while Google has also published code that will allow developers to create apps that use a left-side navigation bar, which will work better with D-pads.

Developers will now also be able to take advantage of additional keys on the screen for quick access to features like picture-in-picture, fast forward and the like.

High profile developers expected to take advantage of the finished Android SDK for Google TV include Twitter, Flixster, TNT and CNBC.
