Samsung selling $2 Galaxy S IIs in Australia

Samsung has engaged in guerilla marketing tactics in Australia as it seeks to steal the thunder from the impending release of the iPhone 4S. The company has opened a "pop up" store right near the Sydney Apple Store where it is selling its Galaxy S II handsets to the first ten customers each day for $2. The sale continues on to this Friday, the first day of iPhone 4S availability.

Samsung rented the store, a mere two shops down from the Apple Store to promote a new subscription music the South Korean company launched in Australia this week. The subscription service will charge users $10 a month to give them access to over 3 million songs and is aimed at helping the company offer more end to end services.

According the to the Sydney Morning Herald, customers have been waiting in line since Monday to take advantage of the special offer. Some of the customers lining up for the Galaxy S II admitted that they were planning on on-selling it immediately after getting it to fund overseas trips, while others said that they planned on keeping theirs.

Samsung and Apple continue to be locked in a fierce court room battle in Australia where Apple has so far been able to block the release of Samsung's Galaxy Tab 10.1. This latest tactic from Samsung is unlikely to help foster the relationship between the two companies.

    I'd get the phone... sell it on ebay... and use the money to buy an iPhone.

    ...once the line reaches 10, you might as well go next door and line up for an iPhone. I think there is a flaw in Samsung's marketing plan.

    This will sure put a dent in Apple's market share

    By the end of the year, Samsung will steal 800 customers from Apple in Australia if all 10 daily sales are to people who would have otherwise bought an iPhone.
