Best Buy alone to get $379 Xoom Family Edition

The spied Motorola Xoom Family Edition tablet has now been made official. It runs on Android 3.1 and, as the name suggests, lets the whole family enjoy content thanks to the Kid Zone app from Zoodles that keeps kids away from inappropriate content. There is otherwise $40 worth of apps preloaded on the 10.1-inch slate.

The Kid Zone app locks the home button so children are locked into the app a parent chooses for them. MotoPack is preloaded and showcases high-end, popular apps tested and recommended by Motorola. Special promotions will be included in the app.

The 1GHz, dual-core CPU-powered tablet also gets a five-megapixel rear camera and a front-facing two-megapixel camera. The 16GB of flash memory also contains MotoPrint for printing content straight off the browser, Quickoffice Pro HD, and games such as Asphalt 6 and SimCity Deluxe. Battery life is rated at a similar 10 hours.

The tablet ships to Best Buy stores and online for a limited time price of $379 starting on October 16.
