Flagship Android phone closes in on launch
There are further indications that Samsung's newest flagship phone, the Galaxy Nexus, also sometimes referred to as the Nexus Prime, may soon be hitting the streets. Earlier in this week, Samsung's UK sales director told an audience that it would be in stores "sooner than you think," and yesterday, the Android 4.0-based handset made its way into Verizon's Cellebrite inventory system. Today, Droid-Life reported that the phone has now appeared in Best Buy's inventory system as well.
The much anticipated phone, which some believe could go head-to-head with the new Apple iPhone 4S, will run the stock version of Android 4.0, which itself is nicknamed Ice Cream Sandwich. The Prime is expected to offer a 4.6-inch Super AMOLED display with native 720p resolution, a five-megapixel rear camera, and a front-facing camera of least 1.3 megapixels. The processor is most likely a Samsung dual-core 1.5GHz Exynos chip, although a newer TI 1.2GHz OMAP CPU could also be used.
It's rumored that the handset will launch at Verizon in the US on November 3 or 4. There is no indication when Best Buy might begin sales if not the same day.
