MG4120, MG3120, MG2120 better plain paper printing

Canon U.S.A. has announced three new PIXMA printers, MG4120 Wireless Photo All-In-One (AIO), MG3120 Wireless Photo All-In-One, and the MG2120 Photo All-In-One printers. The MG4120 and MG3120 use 802.11n Wi-Fi for networking, while the MG2120 uses a USB connection. All three printers use Canon's ChromaLife 100 ink system, which uses one black and one color cartridge. Canon claims the new ink system produces better yellows and reds, especially on plain paper. Each of the new printers can produce a full color 4x6 photo in approximately 44 seconds. The MG4120 and MG3120 also can duplex automatically.

Like the PIXMA MG5320, the MG4120 can preview photos stored on the Canon Image Gateway service or Google's Picasa on its 2.4in. LCD screen and print them without being attached to a computer.

The printers come with Canon's Movie Print software for capturing images from video captured on compatible HD Canon EOS and PowerShot Digital Cameras. Also included is Canon's Easy-PhotoPrint EX software for editing and printing photos. An app for Android and iPhone (free, iTunes, Market) allows the MG4120 and MG3120 to print documents from compatible smartphones. The AIO machines can also scan documents and send them to smartphones as PDFs.

The three printers have the same maximum resolution, 4800x1200 dpi. Canon claims a print speed of approximately 9.9 ipm for black-and-white documents and 5.7 ipm for color for the PIXMA MG4120 Wireless Photo AIO. The PIXMA MG3120 Wireless Photo AIO prints black and white at approximately 9.2 ipm and 5.0 ipm for color. The PIXMA MG2120 Photo AIO produces approximatley 8.4 ipm for black and white and 4.8 ipm for color documents.

The Canon PIXMA MG4120 Wireless, MG3120 Wireless and MG2120 Photo All-in-One Printers will retail for an estimated $130, $80 and $70, respectively. The company did not say when the new printers would be available.

    I HATE

printers with just one color cartridge. Once one of the colors runs out... you throw all of them away. Wasteful and expensive, but great for Canon's bottom line...
