Aerial video captures Apple's Jobs memorial ceremony

updated 05:05 pm EDT, Wed October 19, 2011

Giant banners of Jobs drape Apple HQ

New helicopter footage from station KPIX TV shows the corporate Steve Jobs memorial held earlier today at Apple's Cupertino headquarters. In the clip, hundreds or thousands of people can be seen attending the event at an outdoor amphitheater. Hanging on the sides of some buildings were rally-style banners, featuring photos of Jobs from different points in his career.

Other reports say that Tim Cook, Bill Campbell and Al Gore all spoke at the ceremony, while Norah Jones and Coldplay performed music. The event ended with the Randy Newman song "You've Got a Friend in Me," which features prominently in the Pixar movie Toy Story. Jobs was once in charge of the studio (now part of Disney), and later used his board position to make Disney/Pixar content prominent in iTunes, and/or in Apple marketing. Promotional clips for the iPad 2, for instance, often feature the Disney movie Tangled.

At one point during the memorial the audience is said to have been shown a recently-resurfaced version of Apple's "Crazy Ones" TV ad. Unlike the one that made it to air, Jobs himself narrates the clip.

Apple Stores were closed for three hours today in parallel with the event.
