App portal will organize searches & save time

Best Buy has launched a service targeting users of iOS and Android devices. The company's App Discovery Center makes it easier for recent smartphone and tablet owners to find and download needed apps. The center uses mobile app discovery technology from Appolicious to save time, organize options and make recommendations.

The App Discovery Center offers several unique features including an App Directory that organizes apps into 1,200 popular categories to help narrow down a specific area of interest, as well as an App Search feature that uses algorithms based on social, user-generated and editorial signals to improve search results.

The Center also posts the "hottest" apps in Android Market and the App Store. The company has collected and aggregated app recommendations from Best Buy's staff, which a user can explore by store or sales associate. As an added feature, Best Buy has provided a section displaying new price cuts.

Best Buy's portal is up and running now as a dedicated website. Android and iOS device apps will be available for both platforms shortly.
