Google Voice now iOS 5 ready

Google on Friday posted its promised Google Voice update (App Store) for iOS 5. The release fixes a major crash bug that in many cases prevented users from logging in or even launching the app. The fix is the only known update.

The search firm had said it had sent in an updated version of the app virtually at the same time as it left the App Store, but pulled it to avoid creating a negative experience for iOS 5 users, many of whom would just have updated their devices. Google Voice's absence was the first time it hadn't been available on the iPhone since its November 2010 release.

The app has had a relatively stable history since then, although it took two years to arrive after Apple blocked it from the store.
