HTC promises Android 4 on numerous devices

HTC in an update Friday gave an early sign of its plans to upgrade phones to Android 4.0. While vague, it set out to upgrade "as many HTC devices as possible". More details would come in the weeks ahead, the company wrote.

The candidate phones weren't set out but are likely to start off with higher-end phones that get closest to the dual-core, high-resolution output Android 4.0 needs. For HTC, this could involve the Amaze 4G, Evo 3D, Raider 4G, Sensation, and Sensation XE. Fast single-core phones like the Sensation XL might also be short-listed.

Unlike Android 2.3, 4.0 may be more demanding and doesn't have a guaranteed upgrade path. Some major phones like the the Nexus S suggest the common baseline is a 1GHz single-core processor.
