Transformer sequel, Transformer Prime inbound
The ASUS Transformer sequel, the Transformer Prime, has been given a teaser page by the company. The Transformer Prime is the new halo product from the company and follows in the footsteps of its predecessor by offering a combined tablet and docking keyboard configuration. At the heart of the new device is NVIDIA's latest mobile processor, the ARM Cortex A9-based Tegra 3 quad-core processor.
The device will be the first of a new wave of ARM-based quad-core devices coming on to the market in the next few months. Similar processors are also expected soon from Apple, with its forthcoming A6 processor expected to debut in the iPad 3, as well as the next generation of Qualcomm Snapdragon processors and Texas Instruments OMAP line.
The new Transformer Prime was first shown-off live on stage at the recent AsiaD conference by ASUS CEO Jonney Shih. The device is much more slim and compact than the original Transformer that was released just seven months ago and is also expected to pack Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich when it released in November.
