Galaxy S II LTE now in Canada, more due next week

Rogers revealed that it's making good on its promise to ship the Samsung Galaxy S II LTE smartphone. A limited number of customers who reserved it should get the phone no later than next week with more shipments scheduled for next week. The carrier also said it plans to have enough devices to fulfill all pre-orders.

Canada is just the second country to get the advanced smartphone after it launched in its home market of Korea about a month ago. Rogers is quick to point out it's the first Canadian provider to ship LTE handsets, after it was also the pioneer in bringing an LTE network in the country and shipping the first LTE modems and tablets, like the HTC Jetstream.

The win has been made somewhat hollow by the unveiling of the Galaxy Nexus. It too supports LTE, although not necessarily in Canada, and it will have a more advanced 4.65-inch, 720p screen when it arrives in the country for November. Rogers' hardware has an advantage mostly in being smaller and potentially carrying a faster processor, a 1.5GHz Samsung-made Exynos instead of the 1.2GHz TI OMAP in the new Nexus.
