Windows Phone 8 due in mid 2012 said Nokia exec

The next major Windows Phone build, dubbed Appolo and carrying the 8 suffix, will arrive in mid-2008, Nokia executive VP of Location and Commerce revealed to Engadget. Michael Halbherr said it will offer many improvements compared to the current Mango (Windows Phone 7.5) build. Halbherr also confirmed earlier rumors that the OS will have NFC support as well.

The exec said he's been pushing Microsoft to include a positioning framework in the OS to make it work more efficiently with Nokia's Navteq mapping platform in order to provide new location-based services.

Not much else is known about the next Windows Phone version, although recent recruiting has hinted that Microsoft might bring desktop foundations to the OS. In this view, a developer could write an app that would run on both Windows 8 and Windows Phone 8 with only the screen size and other inherent details affecting how it's used.
