Griffin Beacon now talks to Android tablet, phone

Griffin filled a gap in Android home theater control by releasing Beacon for Android. The combination of the device and Dijit's app gives the same Bluetooth-to-IR remote control support as from the iOS version of half a year ago. It's optimized both for smartphones and tablets and takes advantage of the extra space on a tablet to show the program listing, detailed show info, and the remote all at once.

Although intended primarily for TVs and DVRs, Beacon will also control stereos and most anything else that recognizes IR signals, including even an Apple TV for those who don't have an iOS device. The device continues to be completely wireless and runs on four AA batteries.

The Beacon costs $70 and is shipping today. Dijit is also free (Android Market).
