Kindle Fire will get access to thousands of apps

Amazon on Wednesday confirmed that it will bring a plethora of existing Android apps to the Kindle Fire when it begins shipping next week. They will number in the thousands and include such popular ones like Netflix, Facebook, Pandora, Twitter and more. Games from Rovio, Electronics Arts, Zynga and other established developers will also be instantly available.

The seven-inch tablet will otherwise get access to Amazon's generous library of movies, e-books and digital music. It sports a full-color touchscreen with a 1024x600 resolution A much-customized Android 2.3 operating system is used for the interface with an emphasis on a virtual shelf and Amazon's cloud service. A dual-core, 1GHz TI OMAP processor powers the device, and it offers 8GB of integrated storage space.

Both Amazon and several major US retailers, such as Best Buy and Walmart, will have the Kindle Fire for $200.
