Apple updates MBP, Airport, Time Capsule firmwares

Airport and TC updated to v7.6, MBP to v1.5

Late on Thursday, Apple released firmware updates for the MacBook Pro (all models), as well as the Airport and Time Capsule wireless base stations (802.11n capable models only). The update to the MacBook Pros, which brings the firmware up to version 1.5, resolves an issue where the MBP may shut down under heavy load when the battery charge is very low, even if the unit is actually plugged into power at the time.

The MacBook Pro update comes in at 730KB and requires Mac OS X 10.6.8 or later. Users must keep the machine plugged into power during the update, and the battery must have at least a 25 percent charge. The machine's fans will run at full speed during the update period but will return to normal once the operation completes. Firmware updates show a gray screen with a "gas gauge" dark gray progress indicator during operation.

The v7.6 firmware update for 802.11n Airport Express and Airport Extreme models, as well as for all 802.11n-capable Time Capsules, fixes a bug related to performance on overlapping wireless networks, an issue with AirPlay audio streaming and a problem with configuring multiple entries for DNS servers. If users have not already installed the Airport Utility (v5.5.3) on their computers, it is recommended that they do that first before updating the firmware.

    Only for Early 2011 MBP

The MBP SMC update is certainly not for all models. The installer checks for MacBookPro8,1, MacBookPro8,2 or MacBookPro8,3, which is to say the 13-inch, 15-inch or 17-inch Early 2011 MacBook Pros.
