Apple warns iCloud not working for some users
Apple, and users, warned Friday that iCloud services were facing a partial failure. Some, though not all, users either couldn't connect or were getting unusual login prompts. No explanation or timeframe for a fix was available other than "ASAP," according to Apple's status page.
The drop follows a Siri outage last week and shows teething problems for Apple's broadening cloud services. iCloud represents a much larger expansion of Apple's Internet components that added backup, device-independent syncing, and more advanced media syncing features such as Photo Stream and automatic downloads. Siri and voice dictation depend on cloud processing to work and add an extra burden to Apple's network.
Google typically hasn't faced such outages, although it bases its entire business around the web and is relatively experienced. Its services are also less focused around intensive media apps.
