SlingPlayer previews Facebook app

Sling Media has quietly shown off the first web-based version of SlingPlayer. Its upcoming Facebook app will let viewers tune into one or more Slingboxes to watch and control a TV set-top box, media player, or other devices that the Slingbox can control. As in the native mobile and desktop apps, viewers can bring up a virtual remote or take the video full screen.

The only Facebook extra so far is the ability to post to the Facebook Wall while watching. More features were hinted, but not outlined. It's also unknown whether the app will work in the HTML5 mobile web page or if it needs a component like Flash.

Sling hasn't said when the Facebook app will arrive or whether it will cost anything to use. Most of the desktop and mobile apps cost $30, but Sling might have to use Facebook Credits if it charges for the web version. [via MisterSling on Twitter]
