Three Android phones to sport $50 price tag
AT&T has announced that it will be releasing three additional smartphones in its Android lineup. The carrier will begin shipping the Samsung Captivate Glide and DoubleTime, and the Pantech Pocket, on November 20. All three phones carry a $50 price tag with a contract.
The Samsung Captivate Glide is the most advanced, with a four-inch Super AMOLED screen. The QWERTY slider incorporates a dual-core Tegra 2 processor, an eight-megapixel rear facing camera with 1080p video, and a 1.3-megapixel front-facing camera.
The entry-level Samsung DoubleTime offers a QWERTY keyboard in a clamshell form factor with dual screens. Both the outside and inside displays are 3.2-inch 320x480 touchscreens. The processor is a 600MHz single core chip, and the camera is a simpler 3.2-megapixel unit. Surprisingly, the OS is only Android 2.2, an OS that's now a year and a half old.
The Pantech Pocket features an unusually proportioned four-inch, 600x800 display intended to suit it to typing. The phone is expected to have a five-megapixel camera with HD video, and will run Android 2.3.
