LG to bring Android 2.3 to Optimus 3D next week

LG Korea has now confirmed that the Optimus 3D smartphone will benefit from faster 3G data network speeds thanks to the Android 2.3 update. The handsets will now have the ability to access HSPA+ data networks for download speeds as fast as 21Mbps. Its mention reveals that the hardware had been limited in software to 14.4Mbps or less, although why this was the case isn't known.

Other improvements will include a better 3D experience and improved multimedia functions, LG said. Google's usual changes included in the update include better power management, copy and paste and UI improvements. The user interface now gets a wider screen and a transparent control layout.

On the multimedia end, users can now edit 2D and 3D movies. Gallery activation has been made faster, and video stabilization has been added to the 2D capture mode. It was only previously available in 3D.

The rollout begins on November 21 in Europe and will continue in other countries until its completion by year's end. In the US, that will affect the Thrill 4G.
