Platform provides high-speed 4G LTE connectivity

Qualcomm has announced the availability of its newest platform for embedded wireless connectivity, the Gobi 4000. The fourth generation Gobi Platform provides 4G LTE connectivity for notebooks and other mobile devices. The 4000 platform is based on the company's MDM9600 and MDM9200 multi-mode 3G/4G wireless modems.

The 4000 platform features the Gobi API with LTE extensions and is compatible with CDMA2000, 1xEV-DO, HSPA+, and LTE connectivity standards. It is backwards compatible with HSPA and EV-DO. The 4000 includes software enhancements for select Qualcomm MDM chipsets that provide a common software interface to help connect, locate, and manage 3G/4G devices regardless of the wireless interface or operating system.

Gobi 4000-based modules are now available from Qualcomm's partners Novatel Wireless and Sierra Wireless.
