Sony resumes making Alpha, NEX cameras after Thai floods

Production moved to separate facilities
Sony has reportedly resumed production operations for its Alpha and NEX cameras that were being manufactured in areas affected by the recent record-breaking floods in Thailand. To bring the operations back up to speed, the company is said to have moved production from the inundated Ayuthaya site to a plant located further south in Chonburi.
The widespread floods affected many manufacturing plants from a range of companies, including Western Digital, Toshiba and Seagate, among others. The concentration of hard-drive manufacturing plants in the country is expected to create a global shortage.
Sony's Ayuthaya facilities were reportedly tasked with creating the latest Alpha SLT cameras, which feature unique translucent mirrors, and the NEX-7. The company had to shut down two production plans in Thailand, though the Chonburi plant remained operational.
Despite the resumption of production operations, a time-frame for shipments to consumers remains unclear. The new Alpha A65 and A77 cameras have yet to arrive on the market, leading the company to slash its camera sales forecast for the end of the year. [via DPReview]
