Spar Zephyr outs Bluetooth portable speakers
The latest entry into the portable Bluetooth speaker is Spar's Zephyr range. Using the same idea as the Jambox from Jawbone, these speakers gain the unique ability to charge a smartphone or other USB-powered device that acts as the source for the music. The range starts with the Zephyr 300.
It offers a Bluetooth connection for streaming audio from A2DP devices and can also double as a louder speakerphone. Buyers can opt for blue, red or black. It is rated at 12 hours of battery life and ships with a four-foot USB to micro USB cable, three-foot 3.5mm audio cable, wall power adapter, and a carrying case. A 3.5mm jack gives the ability to hardwire sources into it. It's priced at $100.
The Zephyr 500 is larger and gets an 18-hour life from its 1,500mAh battery. It houses two 1.5W speakers. Its soft-touch exterior is only available in white or black and costs $130.
The aircraft aluminum-bodied Zephyr 550 is the range-topper, getting as much as 30 hours of life from a 3,000mAh battery. It will set buyers back $160. All three speakers are slated to ship in mid-December.
