Square merchant app gets printed receipts, auto loyalty

Updates available for Android and iOS apps
Square has introduced significant updates to its mobile-payment apps for iOS and Android devices. The service brings several new capabilities, enabling vendors to take advantage of loyalty programs or print physical receipts. Businesses can create custom promotions that provide special discounts or other benefits to regular customers who open a tab with Card Case.
To help bridge the gap between paperless mobile payments and traditional point-of-sale systems, Square now allows users to wirelessly print a recept or open a cash drawer for payments that are not made using credit cards. The system requires a Star Micronics printer connected to the same Wi-Fi network, along with an APG Vasario cash drawer.
Square has maintained a flat rate of 2.75 percent per swipe for all cards, or 3.75 percent plus $0.15 per transaction if the card number must be manually entered. The updated apps are now available directly from the App Store and Android Market, while the recept printer and cash drawer must be purchased from third-party vendors.
