Vizio ships M-series LED LCD Smart 3D TVs

The 3D HDTVs Vizio introduced at the CES expo in January are now shipping, the company said Wednesday. The M-series sets use passive glasses technology that's cheaper to run, but still have Vizio Internet Apps. All have edge-lit LED backlighting, and some sets include up to four pairs of the battery-free glasses, which are lightweight and more comfortable than active shutter glasses.

The LED LCD sets are available in 42-inch M3D420SR ($990), 46-inch M3D460SR ($1,210) and 55-inch M3D550SR ($1,650) sizes, with a 65-inch M3D650SV version due in 2012 for $2,100.

The TVs have built-in Wi-Fi to access the Internet Apps, the group of which brings on-demand movies as well as access to social networks, music, and photos. A Bluetooth QWERTY keyboard remote is used to navigate content. Among the example apps include Amazon Instant Video, Blockbuster on Demand, Facebook, Fandango, Flickr, Hulu Plus, Netflix, Pandora, Rhapsody, Twitter, and Vudu.
