Galaxy Nexus goes on sale in UK rocking Android 4
The Samsung Galaxy Nexus has officially gone on sale in the UK. Samsung UK marked the occasion by posting an image on Twitter of a lucky user it calls the "world's first Galaxy Nexus owner." The launch of the phone also marks the first time a phone carrying Android 4.0 (Ice Cream Sandwich) has shipped.
The Galaxy Nexus brings with it a 4.65-inch Super AMOLED 720p-capable display, a 1.2GHz dual-core processor matched with 1GB of RAM, and LTE (or Petaband HSPA+). It also incorporates a 5-megapixel camera with "zero shutter lag" that can shoot in 1080p, and carries a 1.3-megapixel camera for video chatting. Other components include, an accelerometer, gyro, compass and barometer.
In addition to unifying Android 2.3 (Gingerbread) for mobile phones with Android 3.0 (Honeycomb) for tablets, the key features of Ice Cream Sandwich include face-recognition to unlock, voice typing, and Android beam to exchange Web addresses, YouTube videos or contacts over NFC. [via CNET]
