Vudu-To-Go downlaods open to Macs and PCs
Vudu broke out of its streaming-first mode on Thursday with Vudu-To-Go. The service now lets those who have bought a movie or a TV show download it to a Mac or Windows PC to watch without needing an Internet connection. The videos run through an Adobe AIR app that keeps the videos protected.
Downloads don't carry a premium over the regular starting prices of $5 for a movie sale and $2 for a TV show. Rentals aren't available for downloads, however, and movie studios make Vudu limit downloads to five computers at a time. Videos are also always standard-definition and aren't HD or HDX for now.
The choice of format currently rules out using Vudu-To-Go on downloads, although it already has an iPad streaming app and should reach the Xbox 360, possibly as soon as the fall Dashboard update.
