Alpha versions demo core functionality

Last week, Google posted the source code for Android 4.0. The developer community has wasted little time in porting the code over to several recently released smartphones. Alpha versions have now shown up unofficially for two handsets, the Samsung Galaxy S II and LG Optimus 3D.

Both phones have so far been running the fundamental functions of the OS. Advanced wireless features, including Bluetooth and Wi-Fi are absent in these initial implementations, but are likely to be available shortly. Current versions are based directly off of the code from the Galaxy Nexus and often don't have the custom drivers that LG, Samsung, and others usually make for themselves. [via Ubergizmo]
