Twitter update adds Mango compatibility & Japanese

Twitter has updated is app for Windows Phone. The software, used to share photos and to broadcast brief status messages, is now compatible with Windows Phone 7.5 (free, Marketplace). The instant messaging app ICQ is also being launched in its first Windows Phone version.

The Twitter update adds support for multitasking in the new OS. The new release also adds support for Japanese as well as implementing several bug fixes.

Although ICQ has lost favor in most markets, it remains popular in Eastern Europe. In 2010, AOL sold the messaging program to Digital Sky Technologies, the largest Internet company in that region, for $188 million. The forthcoming Windows Phone compatibility was announced at a recent technology forum of the Mail.Ru Group. The initial release will be in Russian. It's not known if an update supporting other languages will be made available. Timing for the update has not been announced. [via The Verge]
