Radio Shack extends iPhone 4S to Sprint
Distribution of the iPhone 4S is getting wider this weekend after a new memo has leaked plans for Radio Shack to start carrying the Sprint iPhone 4S. Stores will have both black and white versions of Apple's device sometime this weekend, 9to5 saw. Unusually, only the more popular 16GB versions will be available, leaving 32GB and 64GB to other store chains.
Some stores should already have stock either being sold or waiting to sell, but others may have to wait through the next few days. Every store that already carries iPhones will get the Sprint model, but those that don't can still make requests.
The expansion partly fills a hole in Apple's retail coverage in the US. Radio Shack was already carrying the 8GB iPhone 4 for Sprint, but the most modern phone was left to AT&T and Verizon. The decision was considered odd at the time given that Radio Shack is often Sprint's preferred retail outlet, but the absence was attributed to "inventory issues" that likely have to do with sustained high demand more than a month after the iPhone 4S went on sale.
