Apple Store Grand Central said certain this week

Rumors of Apple opening its Grand Central store for Black Friday may have borne out after rumors narrowed down the launch plans. A formal announcement is expected by 9to5's source to arrive on Tuesday. Both it and a report from Techfootnote supported this by noting that "dozens" of construction workers, and more importantly corporate staff, were on site this past Friday.

The store is expected to be one of Apple's largest by sheer numbers, though not necessarily significance. It should have the most square feet, occupying the place of a former upscale restaurant, and should have just over 300 staffers that are reportedly in last-minute holiday training as of Sunday.

For Apple, the timing of the store will be critical. Black Friday is almost always the most popular shopping day of the year and usually heralds an Apple Black Friday sale where many of its higher-priced devices and some accessories receive one-day discounts. Opening a store in one of the most heavily trafficked places in New York City on such a day with price drops in place could lead to a breakthrough for Apple's retail performance.
