iFixIt gives Nook Tablet a 6/10 repair score

The iFixIt crew has just obtained the Nook Tablet conducted its traditional teardown in search of its repairability and parts. The full color e-book reader has a unique built-in design element that is the carabineer clip on its corner. The microSD card slot is right beside it and it's surrounded by two small circles that hide screws.

The 0.48-inch thick tablet was separated into two halves after removing these screws and prying them away. The battery and EMI shield are then accessible, with the battery carrying the Nook Color label, but it is good for an extra 3.5 hours of operating time in this application. It's held in place by two adhesive strips. Torx T5 screws hold the front bezel in place.

The mainboard houses 16GB of SanDisk flash memory, TI power management and audio, and 1GB of RAM from Hynix. The display is connected to a FocalTech Capacitive Touch Panel Controller that's currently rare versus those from Broadcom, Synaptics, and others.

Because of the large amount of adhesive strips, deep integration of the battery and soldered headphone jack, microSD card slot and more components, along with the hidden screws in the rear panel, iFixIt granted the Nook Tablet a repairability score of just six out of 10, considerably lower than the easy to fix Kindle Fire.
