Ultrabooks feature Intel 2nd generation Core CPUs

Toshiba has begun selling its Portege Z830 and Z835 13.3-inch ultrabooks through its online store. The computer builder is offering four pre-configured models as well as a build-your-own option at prices starting at $930. All models run low-voltage Intel Core processors.

All pre-built models carry integrated Intel graphics, HDMI ports, 128GB solid state drives, USB 3.0, and backlit keyboards. An optical drive is not included, but is offered as an option. The home-oriented Z835 series runs on a 1.4GHz Core i3. The Z830 series targets business customers and upgrade to Core i5 and i7 chips. They move to Windows 7 Professional, to which Toshiba adds a fingerprint reader, Bluetooth, and a longer three-year warranty.

Both Z835 models sell for $930. The Core i5 Z830-8301 comes with 4GB of DDR3 memory. The Z830-8302 increases the memory to 6GB and replaces the processor with an 1.8GHz Core i7. The customizable Z830 starts at $1,099.

Toshiba unveiled the ultrabooks back in September. Best Buy began selling the Z835 as its exclusive brick-and-mortar retailer last week.
