Microsoft tipped as posting Office 15 beta in January

Previews expected at CES


Microsoft is reportedly preparing to begin beta testing the next major revision to its Office productivity software. The release, which is referred to by the name Office 15, is said to be redesigned with a focus on touch- or pen-based input. As confirmed earlier in the year, the suite also features the company's Metro interface design to mesh with Windows 8.

A leaked image posted on Winrumors shows the Outlook e-mail client sporting the redesigned interface. The layout appears to be simplified, with fewer buttons and a predominately white color scheme.

The company is said to be planning the first beta for a January release, with a preview expected at CES.
