Qualcomm Gobi 3000 coming to ThinkPad tablet

Lenovo plans to release a version of its ThinkPad Tablet with a Qualcomm 3000 chipset for connecting to EVDO or HSPA 3G networks worldwide. The device is no doubt one of the two spotted yesterday at the FCC. The tablet will be the first Android-powered device with the chip.

While the prices for the device haven't been announced, Lenovo did say it will ship it later in November.

Other than the Gobi 3000 radio, the ThinkPad will sport the same Tegra 2 processor and a 10.1-inch screen with a 1280x800 resolution. Android 3.1 is preloaded, and there is 1GB of RAM onboard along with Wi-Fi, an HDMI output, and a five-megapixel camera in the back along with a two-megapixel front sensor. The current tablet is available in 16GB, 32GB or 64GB capacities, with the Gobi model possibly using just one of those trim levels.
