Sales bring discounts up to 50 percent

Sony has kicked off its holiday sales a few days ahead of Black Friday, offering a variety of discounts on direct purchases. The company has slashed prices for a variety of products, including home theater systems, speakers, televisions, Blu-ray players and bundles, with free ground shipping on all orders.

Customers can pick up the company's 55-inch class NX720 Internet HDTV bundled with a 3D home theater system and Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows movies for $1700, marking a 50-percent discount, while the 46-inch NX720 is offered in a similar package for $1400.

Other deals include Google TV sets, ranging from $400 for the 32-inch variant up to $1370 for the 54.6-inch model. Blu-ray players can be purchased for $80, while the 3D Blu-ray players can be purchased for as little as $90.

Most retailers will be offering deals for Black Friday, including Best Buy, Walmart, Staples and Kmart, among others. Highlights include a 42-inch 1080p HDTV at Best Buy for $200, along with a 15.6-inch HP notebook with a 1.6GHz dual-core AMD processor and 3GB of RAM for $248 at Walmart. Aside from the deals at brick-and-mortar outlets, online retailers are gearing up for the follow-up Cyber Monday promotions.
