Apple Australia tips Black Friday early
Apple Australia and New Zealand have crossed into Friday and have started Black Friday deals that confirm earlier leaks. Both are offering discounts on all iPads, the iPod nano and iPod touch. The MacBook Air, MacBook Pro, and iMac are all also on sale.
Although prices aren't directly comparable, they largely give clues as to discount sizes in the US. iPad 2 discounts range from $45 AUD to $65, slightly off from the $41 US to $61 expected. iPod nano and touch discounts are $11 AUD and $21 AUD each, both of which should translate more exactly. Mac discounts are $121 AUD versus the $101 anticipated for the US.
Accessories are also on sale, including $21 AUD off of the AirPort Extreme and 2TB Time Capsule and $11 AUD off of the Magic Trackpad, iPad 2 Smart Covers, and the Wireless Keyboard. iTunes gift cards are also $5 AUD off. Some of the largest discounts are on third-party accessories: Bowers & Wilkins' Zeppelin Air wireless speaker dock loses $202 AUD to reach $598, while certain headphones, iOS and Mac cases, and Mac software are on average between $32 to $52 AUD off.
As in recent years, the Apple TV, iPod classic, iPod shuffle, iPhone, Mac mini, and Mac Pro aren't covered.
Apple is keeping its past practice of switching on the discounts as midnight arrives in the eastern part of a given country. The Black Friday sale lasts only for the 24 hours.
