iFixit iPhone 4S Transparent Rear Glass arrives
iFixit on Monday gave iPhone 4S owners a way to customize the look in a more permanent way with an updated version of its Transparent Rear Glass Panel in a special kit. Along with a see-through back adapted to the new layout, it comes with a Liberation Kit to help remove the stock opaque back, a screen protector for the front, and a Thirsty Bag to dry out the phone faster than a bag of rice if the phone gets wet. The install is strictly do-it-yourself but is billed as "easy."
The kit comes with a six-month warranty for the back in case it fails through normal use. iFixit is hoping to get sales to a strong start by cutting the price from $51 to $30 and including the full set of extras for a "limited time." As with most such customizations, the transparent panel voids Apple's warranty while it's installed.

Be careful
There was a fire reported from an iPhone recently that had a third party back installed. The internal battery does not have much protection, and simply pressing on the battery can cause damage that could result in fire.
