Open OS continues to evolve despite Nokia snub

Meego, the open source OS that Nokia shipped with its N9 smartphone, has had more details emerge regarding its upcoming 1.2 update. The major features of the update include is face recognition for the photo gallery, to better help find familiar people, and an improved UI for the camera. The new camera UI now separates the flash options, while video recording now has a separate icon to turn on the LED flash.

Other improvements include improved handling of apps and new button styles.

When the N9 might get MeeGo 1.2 isn't certain. Nokia essentially dropped the operating system, along with Symbian for its smartphones and tablets, when it decided to focus its efforts on Windows Phone back in February.[via Phonesfera]
