Whisper Systems Android security firm bought out

Whisper Systems has just announced that it was bought out by Twitter. The company specializes in enterprise-grade security for Android devices, but all of its products thus far appear to be in beta stage. Whisper also revealed that there will a transitional period during which its products and services will the temporarily unavailable.

Twitter likely made the purchase to enhance its own security as it continues to grow. The most likely Whisper products that Twitter had an interest in include WhisperCore and TextSecure. The former is said to integrate with Android to "protect everything you keep on your phone." TextSecure stores texts in an encrypted database and encrypts them during transmission.

The financial details of the deal weren't revealed. [via TheNextWeb]
