Yandex search giant buys SPB for $38 million?

Russian search and advertising company Yandex, which has 62.7 percent of the country's web search market and beats Google, has now revealed that it purchased mobile apps developer SPB Software. The deal is said by TechCrunch to be worth about $38 million from close, unnamed sources. SPB, founded in 1999, has a home in Russia, Taiwan and Thailand.

SPB first made interfaces for Android and Windows Mobile, but it now creates cross-platform software. Yandex said it was especially interested in SPB's mobile UI for smartphones and tablets and the Shell 3D product in particular. It integrates cloud services and technologies. This would allow Yandex to integrate its search and ad services into numerous platforms.

SPB's other products include a mobile wallet, data traffic analytics, games, web TV integration, a mobile UI builder and more. SPB's tools and UI builder will let OEM brands create custom skins and layouts.
