Google Bar gets remake for simplicity, space

Google nav bar now folded in directly

Google picked late Tuesday to unveil a remade version of the Google Bar. The new version scraps the always-on black bar in favor of a drop-down menu that highlights the core apps and has a "more" option to get the less frequently used apps. Shrinking the bar keeps a consistent look across every page, Google says.

The step also puts the Google+ section directly into the top of the app page instead of a separate section.

Google unveiled a new look for itself earlier in the year and has slowly been spreading it across all of its pages in hopes of a more continuous look as well as an attempt to put social at the front. Changes to the Google Bar are the first significant change to one of the sites that already received a makeover and show that it's willing to trim the site further.
